Nike SB Berlin Open 2016
A contest at a global level
For the third year in a row, fine lines executed the Berlin Open contest in July 2016 at Nike SB Shelter indoor skate park. Once again boasting a €20,000 prize purse, the competition attracted riders from across the globe, including some global athletes. Our task was to raise the event’s relevance and reach across Europe, thereby reaching even more people beyond Berlin.
A reach beyond Berlin
For this year’s edition, we conceptualized and implemented a fundamental departure from previous events: The Berlin Open’s first-ever online live stream. By registering on NikeSB.com, viewers had a chance to follow the contest live starting with the semi finals, as competitors faced off in the new format of jams of two riders broadcast in split-screen mode. The live stream was also broadcast outside in the Nike SB Shelter skate park’s beer garden to keep on-site viewers posted on the action.
Nike SB succeeded in generating live content from its own event, which was exclusively available to registered online users, thereby also increasing the number of new sign-ups and overall reach for the competition.
